Meet the directors
Mr. Ross - director
Zachary Ross has served as the instrumental music director at Waverly City Schools since 2016. He teaches band in grades 5-12, conducts the concert, marching, jazz, and pep bands, directs the orchestra for the spring musical, and teaches AP Music Theory.
Zack graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor of Music Education from Ohio University where he earned a Performance Honors distinction on clarinet. At OU, he performed with Symphonic Band, Symphony Orchestra, Campus Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Choral Union, Clarinet Choir, and other chamber ensembles. He attributes much of his success to his teachers, former Waverly Band directors John Huffman and Brenda Harper, and his clarinet professor, Dr. Rebecca Rischin. A 2011 graduate of Waverly High School, Zack was an active student of the band and choir program. He was a recipient of the John Philip Sousa Award, the Louis Armstrong Award, and the Semper Fidelis Award. Zack is an active member of the Great Seal of Ohio Band (Chillicothe, OH), the 73rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment Band, directs the choir at Grace U.M.C. of Waverly, and serves as organist for several churches. He also keeps busy by teaching clarinet and piano lessons locally. |
MR. PATTERSON - ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
Tom Patterson is a graduate from the Armed Forces School of Music. Tom was stationed with the 97th Army Band and 77th Artillery Div. Army Band at Ft. Sill & the 2nd Inf. Div. Band in Korea.
Tom is the President of the Seal of Ohio Band and has been a member for the past 45 years. He is also a retired Sergeant with the Waverly Police Department. Tom is currently the President of the Waverly City Council, and retired teacher from the Southern Ohio Police Training Academy at Ohio University Chillicothe. He is an Alumnus of the Waverly H.S. Band Class of "1966" and was the first two-time winner of the John Phillip Sousa Award at Waverly. Mr. Patterson's specialty is trombone and euphonium. He assists mainly with the high school band. |
MR. LUMMER - PERCUSSION DIRECTOR
Steve Lummer is a native of Bellbrook, Ohio. He has resided in Waverly for over 25 years. Steve is a Radiation Protection Section Manager for Nuclear Operations with Fluor BWXT. He is a graduate of Shawnee State University with a Bachelors of Science in Environmental Engineering and Physics.
Steve is a graduate of Bellbrook High School class of “1982” and is an alumnus of The University of Dayton Marching Band. Steve was a Petty Officer, 2nd Class in the U.S. Navy and was a Nuclear Power Plant Operator on the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise and the Submarine SSN Pittsburgh. He is also a charter member of the 73rd OVI Regiment Band (civil war brass band). Besides Waverly Steve has worked with the following bands: Bellbrook H.S., Stebbins H.S. Clinton Massie, University of Central Florida and Xenia H.S. Mr. Lummer volunteers his time outside of his full-time job to assist with the high school band and to lead our awesome drum line, "Lummer's Drummers." |
